About

This blog is my thoughts on how to be financially successful.

When I graduated from college in 1987 and started my first job out of school, like most students I had a negative net worth with $1000 savings, $15,000 in student loans.  My Father had recently changed careers and became a Financial Planner so conversations on planning for the future and how to deal with money were common at home at that time.  I got to thinking about my goals and how best to achieve them.  I knew that I did not want to work for someone else for the next 40 years so building a significant amount of savings was high on my list of desires.  I immediately began putting money into the company retirement plan, as well as putting cash in place for a safety net, as well as investing for the future.  Over the course of the last 20 years, my wife and I have been very careful with our funds, spending carefully and saving constantly.  We are now in the position where we have the freedom to choose how and where we want to live, and our investments contibute as much to our net worth every year as my day job.  We are not yet rich, but we can see that by continuing on this path for another decade we will be.

Putting yourself in a similar position is not complicated, but it takes discipline, sacrifice and patience.  There is nothing here that will make you a millionaire in 3 years, but there is a lot here that can make you a millionaire in 20 or 30 years.  I urge you all to browse this site, read the articles and get stated.  Stop pissing your time and effort away and use it to move you toward your goals.
